Burley Travoy Review: My Most Useful Bike Upgrade

  • 2 min read

Meet Jonny Nelson, the creator behind EAT DRINK BIKE w/ Jonny Nelson and a longtime member of the Burley community. For nearly a decade, Jonny has relied on the Burley Travoy to transform everyday errands into bike adventures, proving that thoughtful design and lasting durability never go out of style. In this guest post, he shares why the Travoy has remained his most useful bike upgrade for the past 10 years, and why the latest model's thoughtful updates have only made a product he already loved even better.

"I absolutely love utility when it comes to bikes, and after nearly ten years with the Burley Travoy, I can honestly say it has been the most useful bike upgrade I’ve ever bought.

If you had asked me ten years ago which piece of cycling gear would still be part of my everyday life today, I don’t think I would have guessed it would be a cargo trailer.

Looking back though, it makes perfect sense."

"One of my favorite parts of cycling isn’t riding farther or faster. It’s discovering all the things a bicycle can do. I love that little moment when an ordinary errand suddenly turns into a bike adventure.

Ooo... wait! I can do this by bike!

Living in Chicago, the Travoy completely changed what felt possible. Grocery runs. Costco runs. Bringing my husband’s electric cello to gigs. Picking up a serious amount of Oktoberfest beer. Avoiding more Uber rides than I can count.

With the Travoy, each errand became less of a chore and more of a fun little challenge."

"What I love most about the Travoy isn’t one specific feature. It’s how little friction there is to using it. As an apartment dweller, that matters. It folds down small enough to carry downstairs, and with just a couple of clicks, it’s attached and ready to ride.

There’s no complicated setup. No dedicated cargo bike taking up space in the basement. No need to transfer gear from one bike to another. I get to keep riding the bike I already know and love.

That might be my favorite thing about it."

"The Travoy doesn’t replace my bike. It transforms it.

In less than a minute, my everyday commuter becomes something completely different. I’m not riding a cargo bike. I’m riding my favorite bike, just with a whole lot more carrying capacity.

Over the years, I’ve realized that making a bike more useful almost always means riding it more. It makes errands feel possible. It makes chores feel a little more exciting. It turns grocery shopping into a tiny adventure.

And to me, that’s what great bike gear should do.

It doesn’t just improve your ride. It makes you want to ride in the first place."
