At Burley, the joy and possibility in every ride move us to make more rides possible.
From the worry-free gear we design to the bike causes we support, we make it easier for you to get out there and do more by bike.
Burley. Ride Your Way.
From sharing the love in our own backyard to building bikeable communities across the country, we are going the distance to make the world a better place to live and bike.
In the early 1970s, a cycling craze swept across America. Bike sales skyrocketed and nearly 64 million Americans took to two wheels. In those days you could outfit your bike with a sweet banana seat, an oversized basket, and handsewn panniers, but one thing you couldn’t buy was a bike trailer.
Meet Burley founder Alan Scholz. A diehard cyclist, Alan was looking for a way to transport his young daughter by bike. He began tinkering with parts from an old swing set and just like that the first Burley bike trailer was born right here in Eugene, Oregon. More than four decades later, Alan’s spirit of innovation is alive and well here at Burley. Our team of designers and engineers continues to develop safe, versatile equipment for biking with precious cargo.
Whether you are commuting to work or crisscrossing continents, pedaling with your puppy or toting your toddler, it’s nice to know you have a long history of thoughtful design, rigorous testing, and quality construction at your back.
Our team of designers and engineers continues to develop safe, versatile equipment for biking with precious cargo.
Burley started out as a family-owned business and then operated as a co-op for many years. In 2006, Burley became a family-owned company once again, when co-op members sold the company to Mike Coughlin, a local community leader, cyclist, and Oregon native. Running the company alongside his family, Mike built on Burley’s robust heritage.
Today, Burley is still a family-owned company with Mike’s daughter, Allison Straub, at the helm. With Allison’s leadership, Burley continues to expand its legacy of innovative design, trusted craftsmanship, and community investment in Oregon and around the world. It’s been an exhilarating ride since 1978, and we’re excited for the road ahead.
